Pinellas County, Florida

St. Petersburg real estate, considered.

Sunlight on the bay, a city of parks, and a home for every chapter.

St. Petersburg sits on the southern end of the Pinellas peninsula, with Tampa Bay on one side and the Gulf a short drive away. The first Orange Belt Railroad train arrived in 1888; as the city tells it, founders John C. Williams and Peter Demens flipped a coin for the right to name the town, and Demens chose St. Petersburg, after the Russian city. It was incorporated as a town in 1892 and as a city in 1903, and its downtown waterfront has been shaped around public parks ever since.

Our office is here, on 1st Avenue North. We'd love to show you the city the way we see it: one street, one porch, one sunset at a time.

Homes here

Housing ranges from early 20th-century bungalows and Mediterranean Revival homes in the older neighborhoods near downtown, to mid-century ranch homes, homes on canals and the bay, townhomes, and high-rise condominiums downtown.

Getting around

Interstate 275 runs through the city, north to Tampa over the Howard Frankland Bridge and south over the Sunshine Skyway to Manatee County. The Gandy Bridge is a second route to Tampa. PSTA's SunRunner, Tampa Bay's first bus rapid transit line, has run from downtown to St. Pete Beach since 2022, and the 47-mile Pinellas Trail begins downtown.

Places

A few of our favorite places

  • The waterfront

The St. Pete Pier opened in 2020 as a 26-acre district of parks, paths and places to eat over the water. The Dalí Museum sits on the downtown waterfront nearby.

  • Gardens and preserves

Sunken Gardens, a city-owned botanical garden, is on 4th Street North. Boyd Hill Nature Preserve covers 245 acres on Lake Maggiore, and Weedon Island Preserve, run by Pinellas County, protects more than 3,000 acres along the bay.

  • Beaches nearby

Fort De Soto Park, the county's largest park, spreads across five keys south of the city, with beaches, trails and a historic fort.

Questions

St. Petersburg, answered

What kinds of homes are in St. Petersburg?

Almost every kind: early 20th-century bungalows and Mediterranean Revival homes near downtown, mid-century ranch homes, waterfront homes on canals and the bay, townhomes, and downtown condominiums.

How do you get from St. Petersburg to Tampa?

Most drivers take Interstate 275 over the Howard Frankland Bridge. The Gandy Bridge (U.S. 92) is the other direct route across the bay.

How much are property taxes on a home in St. Petersburg?

It depends on the price and whether it will be your homestead. In Florida, a sale resets the assessed value, so the seller's bill is rarely what you will pay. Our affordability tool estimates the new owner's taxes for St. Petersburg the way the Pinellas County Property Appraiser's estimator does, with and without the homestead exemption. It is an estimate for planning, not a tax bill. Estimate yours.
